On Friday, April 24th, 1965, this happened:
Those are my parents, and on Friday, April 24th, 2015, they celebrated their 50th anniversary. This is not something that happens every day so on Sunday, April 26th, my siblings and I threw them a surprise party with their closest friends and family.
I talk to my mom multiple times a day, which may be super weird to most people, but she is my best friend and has always been there supporting my crazy endeavors! So, keeping a secret from her for months was not as easy task for me to do! But, we did it and they were so surprised. I wish I had a photo of the exact moment they realized that nearly 100 people were there to celebrate them, but I will remember the looks on their faces forever.
Their party was a huge success. Over the past few months, we were able to find out details about their wedding such as wedding colors, flowers, etc, and we were able to get a bunch of old photos to decorate with. How cute is this?
We settled on a dessert bar, and we made all kinds of their favorite desserts. Instead of recreating their wedding cake, I chose to do an updated version with sugar carnations (the flowers my mom’s bridesmaids carried) in mint green and peach, which were their wedding colors. The rest of the dessert bar we just did to match. I loved how easy it was to have mini desserts that everyone could just grab when they wanted. No one had to choose just one thing!
Here is an up close look at the cake and the desserts:
And, of course, we had to have them cut their cake!
God truly blessed me with the best parents and I am so grateful that we got to make them feel special for their special day. I love them more than anything in the world, and I am so proud to call them my mom and dad.
Happy 50th anniversary! You two are still as cute as you were then!
Thanks so much for stopping by and letting me share something a little more personal!
